A CENTRE which has undergone a £1m revamp is holding an open day tomorrow.

The Learning Place, in Derby Road, North End, will be a venue for people to take up new activities and to also improve skills, including IT, English and maths.

Staff will be on hand to show visitors what the centre has to offer and people will also get a taste of classes free.

Andrew Bishop, centre manager said: ‘This is the first permanent adult and family learning facility in the city. It was previously a run-down building in desperate need of serious investment.

‘With money from the council and the Skills Funding Agency, we’ve managed to transform the building.

‘This has provided us with hi-tech computer suites, print studio and specialist catering facilities.

‘People might be surprised to hear that we offer more than just computer courses, we also have patisserie master classes, guitar lessons and foreign language courses, amongst others.’

The open day runs from 10am to 4pm.
