AN OPEN mic night will start the search for talent in the south and raise money for charity.

The event is being held at The Fareham pub, in Trinity Street, Fareham, as a preliminary event for Open Mic UK, a competition that seeks out the best singers and vocalists across the country.

Up to 30 acts will perform at the pub across a variety of genres to promote talented musicians in the community.

Event organiser Marcus Jones, 36, said: ‘We get some amazing guys come through, they are superb some of them. It’s a really good platform for some of them to start getting some recognition.’

Prizes on offer include vocal training sessions, studio recording time and music vouchers. The event is in aid of The Rainbow Centre, in Fareham, a charity that supported Mr Jones’ nine-year-old daughter Summer.

He said: ‘It’s a really good cause and that’s why I’ll be giving a little back through this.’

The event takes place on Sunday, August 10 at The Fareham pub starting at 6pm.
