A YOUTH wind band is to hold its first open rehearsal for prospective new members.

The Highbury Area Band (HAB) is inviting musicians to take part in the event at The Kings Theatre in Albert Road, Southsea, on Saturday – and say some joining could end up with a permanent place in the group.

Young musicians can learn how to play pieces including themes from Pirates of the Caribbean, Thunderbirds and a James Bond medley.

The event, run with Portsmouth Music Hub, will end with a performance of the pieces rehearsed.

It is a chance for the band to reach a new audience and recruit new members.

HAB plays a wide variety of music including classical, popular, marches, film themes and music from well-known shows.

The band is keen to hear from anyone who plays the flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, tuba, euphonium, bassoon or French horn.

Members are all Grade 5 or above and mostly aged between 11 and 21.

The event will run from 9.30am to midday.
