I’m in the process of moving my video production business into a new office at Portsmouth Watersports Centre on the Eastern Road.

As it’s the summer holidays, youngsters are windsurfing, sailing, kayaking – basically anything to do with laughing and jumping around in the sea.

Sadly, as a young ’un I never utilised such great facilities.

In the summer of 1982, aged nine, my friends and I made a dinghy out of a bile green-coloured bath tub, a banister and a shower curtain.

We set sail for Hayling Island and beyond, dreaming of distant voyages, rambling adventure and mermaids.

Then someone accidentally pulled the plug out.
