A prison term is supposed to be punishment, not playtime

COMMENT: All agencies must to held to account for Anne Savidge’s tragic death

Have your say

If you’re wondering what’s wrong with the justice system, the case of Colin Blanchard tells you all you need to know in microcosm.

The convicted paedophile, who used the internet to persuade gullible women to abuse children and then send him images for his perverted pleasure, is now behind bars at Albany jail on the Isle of Wight.

But he’s complained about prison rules that mean he isn’t permitted to have an Xbox 360 games console in his cell.

The poor lamb says it’s not fair. But what’s even more galling is that prison policy actually allows some prisoners to have games machines, just not ones that can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.

And here’s me thinking they were supposed to banged up as punishment.
