All I want for Easter is a touch of Spanish sun | Rick Jackson

I was doing all right until I asked one parent at swimming what they were up to for half-term.At that point everything changed and I am now officially miserable.

As one storm after another batters us, to be told by this parent that they were off to an all-inclusive resort near Malaga was really not what I wanted to hear.

I wanted to hear stressed stories about having to ferry kids around to different events and trying to keep them entertained, while ensuring they have as much fresh air and exercise as possible between the gales and downpours.

Note that the weather on the Costa del Sol is a very comfortable 22C, which to most of us would be the most perfect summer’s day.

I also didn’t want to hear that this all-inclusive resort has a brilliant kids’ club or that their children did not want to spend any time with them.

My mind started ticking…

I‘m normally fine with the worst winter can throw at me, but right now I’m desperate to feel the warmth of the sun on my face without it being blown away by a tornado.

We have friends who have villas on the Mediterranean coast of Spain which we’ve used before and have been told we are free to use them any time, but we don’t like to impose.

At the moment any imposition would be a mild inconvenience to me if it meant sipping an ice cold beer on the beach while wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

I went on to YouTube and searched ‘winter in Torrevieja’ and watched thousands of people enjoying a beach party with barbecues and live music on Christmas Day, in 22C of heat and light clothing.

Yes, I know not every day is not like that, but generally it’s warm and the thought of an Easter break, when temperatures rises to 25C, is worth the worry of, in the words of Mr T from The A-Team, ‘getting on that damn plane’.

I want out of here, just for a week, just to feel some warmth on my face and sand between my toes, not squelching mud and hail stones.

It’s either this, or not taking my son swimming any more, so I don’t meet that parent again!

Is a cruise ship the correct place to quarantine people?

Am I the only one to think the craziest place in which to quarantine people from coronavirus is on a cruise ship?

You can see why they were worried about letting passengers off when the virus was discovered. But surely the longer people were kept on board, the more likely it was they would contract it.

We know how quickly a virus can sweep through a ship when norovirus is about, what with air conditioning and people touching railings and doors.

My thoughts were also with the crew, who didn’t seem to have the option, like the passengers, to jump ship.

And what of the ship? Even after a deep clean, would you want to go on Diamond Princess in the future?

Dear Saints’ fans: How to get to Wembley and where to park…

I enjoy winding up Saints’ fans on my breakfast show. I’ve never hidden my support for Pompey, even though stations like Wave 105, and Power FM before it, are popular in both cities.

I was told off by a former boss for being too Blues biased, especially as Power had live Southampton commentary. I enjoyed the aftermath of a defeat!

Yes, things aren’t so great in League One, but I do like to remind them we are the south coast’s most decorated team and now regard Wembley as our second home.

Since the new ground opened in 2007, we have, so far, played there six times to their two. I was gracious though, offering Saints’ fans advice on how to get there and where to park...
