Amid uncertainty, passion of the fans has stayed constant

Vital to plan together in case disaster should strike

Have your say

This afternoon, Pompey play York. They have nine games left to salvage their season… and life in the Football League.

This season there was an underlying expectation that they would bounce back to League One. Being installed as instant promotion favourites underpinned that.

There are an embarrassment of reasons why they have struggled on and off the pitch. But amongst the continuing uncertainty, one thing has remained constant – the passion from the fans.

There were 17,500 fans at Fratton Park against Cheltenham, while 700 travelled for nine hours to watch Pompey get smashed at Fleetwood.

There are teams two leagues higher who dream of such a following.
