Has Britain really got talent? Having missed the whole of the build-up, I dipped into the final of the TV show and found myself absolutely gobsmacked that an old boy dancing had made it into the final.
Then I found the acts coming on after him were depressingly mediocre, until the appearance of the awesome Ronan Parke (who was so good because of his age).
Take away the development of the story, the intrigue about the judges and all the brou-ha-ha and what you get left with is – as Simon Cowell so rightly described it – an end-of-pier cabaret act.
Maybe Britain does have some talent, but from what I’ve seen it’s not been worthy of a big primetime slice of telly space this year.
