If you’ve ever been to Fareham’s high street,you cannot fail to have noticed the delicious aroma of freshly-baked bread and pastries wafting through the air from one of the oldest shops in town.
Soothills Bakery has been around since the early 1950s and for 10 years I was privileged to work with staff that have been there since leaving school and are still baking some 50 odd years later.
Audrey Newington, who sadly passed away in her 80s last month, had been at the bakery since she was in her early 40s and was an amazing character.
She was so generous in spirit and great fun to be around. She will be remembered fondly, not just by myself but by the many customers she served over the years.
