Baroness has vital role to play in promoting tolerance

Home closure will give residents some respite

As the most high-profile Muslim member of the government, Baroness Warsi has a vital role to play in the promotion of religious tolerance.

But she is not helping matters by making the unsubstantiated claim that prejudice against Muslims has become widespread and socially acceptable.

She should, instead, be encouraging Muslim leaders in this country to stand up and condemn all terrorist outrages and the radicalisation of young Muslims. Were this to happen, both she and they will be surprised at the hugely beneficial effect this would have on race relations and the easing of tension on the streets.
