Benedict’s announcement in The Times was so refreshing

LESLEY KEATING: You can be paid way beyond financially as an intern

Have your say

I really loved Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee Sophie Hunter choosing to announce their engagement in The Times.

I can’t stand the celebrity culture that means every little announcement is sold to the highest bidder and Robbie Williams is allowed to make a labour room video.

So having an announcement in The Thunderer, which would have had to have been paid for, without a concurrent announcement from a publicist was really refreshing.

I adore Sherlock and will always remember Cumberbatch’s acting in Frankenstein at the National Theatre.

Some people can just let their work speak for itself, secure in the knowledge that they do what they love and are very good at it. And that’s enough.
