Blue Day is something we can all be proud of

Which is why we’re delighted to bring you today’s coverage of the 10th Blue Day.

As we report on pages 1, 5, 6, 7 and 30, thousands of people across the area donned their blue clothes to raise money for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

The charity was set up in his name by his parents Clinton and Adele.

Its stated aim is to raise 
awareness of and fund research into the treatment of osteosarcoma, the condition that took Tom’s life aged just 16.

And since that first Blue Day, an incredible £989,000 has been raised.

The family, and The News, are hopeful that yesterday’s events will tip the charity over the £1m mark – a truly incredible effort.

Whether it was a school getting pupils involved or a business letting their staff dress up, every single penny will go to help.

But it’s not only about the money. Blue Day just goes to show what a fantastic community spirit exists across this area.

For people to take the time and effort year after year is a big ask.

But you have never let us, or the Prince family, down.

So to everyone who took part or donated yesterday – thank you.

Your efforts are much appreciated by us and by Tom’s family.

The difference the money will make to families up and down the country is hard to overestimate.

The donations made on Blue Day will go on helping for years to come.
