ZELLA COMPTON: Looking afresh at our beautiful spot in the world

Have your say

We’ve never needed an excuse to talk about our passion for Portsmouth – and neither should you.

When you consider all that this great city has got to offer people, it’s no surprise that many of you feel exactly the same way as we do.

It never hurts to put our finger on exactly what it is that we love about the place though.

And that’s why the Passion for Portsmouth survey has been such a resounding success.

You were quick to respond to the call-out and promptly took part in the survey, answering questions about favourite city attractions and whether you’d recommend it to others as a place to live and work.

Unsurprisingly, many of you said that you love our seafront. We should never forget how lucky we are to have such a fantastic location. It’s the kind of thing other towns and cities admire and it is right that we should consider it as a jewel in our crown.

We’re also proud of our maritime heritage and that’s quite right too. We’re world leaders in this area and our Historic Dockyard is a true treasure.

The businesses and organisations that supported the campaign and survey will be pleased to see that so many of Portsmouth’s residents would recommend it to others.

It’s also great news that so many of you think Portsmouth is a better place to live than it was 10 years ago.

Of course, it’s important that no-one sits back on their laurels and thinks that the job is done.

There will always be some aspects that people would like to see improved and the city council, business leaders and others have an ongoing project on their hands to make sure that Portsmouth continues to flourish.

But it’s worth remembering that there is also a time for basking in the sunshine.

We make no apologies for shining a light on what you – and we – love most about our city.

There is pride in Portsmouth – whether it’s for Pompey, the place or the people.

Let’s do all that we can to celebrate that fact so that others can see it too.
