Celebs, stop and think about the impact of your actions

I think it's great how the terms '˜celebrity' and '˜star' have been redefined because of social media.

Gone are the days when a star was someone just seen on our TV or film screens or at a concert.

The likes of YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram have changed how we see people who have risen to fame. The routes to the top are endless now.

However, one Instagram star, Russian model Viki Odintcova, took fame to brand new heights this week – literally – by dangling herself from the top of a skyscraper with no safety harness.

She simply held on to a friend’s hand so she could get the perfect shot.

I honestly haven’t heard of anything so ridiculous in all my life. She is quite literally dangling from the top, holding on to a hand.

When I saw the photos and read the article, it made me so angry I felt compelled to write about it.

It made me livid that someone who is so influential among young people all over the world would be so reckless with her own life.

Not only did she embark on such a stupid stunt, but then put it all over social media for the world to see.

The 23-year-old was taking part in the death-defying stunt on top of the 1,004ft Cayan Tower in Dubai in a bid – and I quote – ‘to get the perfect Instagram shot’.

Unsurprisingly, her antics got shared around and the video of the shoot went viral.

The problem is that social media ‘stars’ want their content to be shared, because it helps them keep up their profile.

Unlike conventional celebrities, these people have to continually keep their audience interested in their daily lives, often posting several times a day.

Perhaps this was one of the motivations for Viki doing such a ridiculous and dangerous thing.

Thankfully she wasn’t hurt, but I fear that such actions could have incredibly serious consequences.

Let’s hope her three million followers don’t think that what she did was something to be replicated.

Honestly, I really do wish people, especially people of influence, considered the impact their actions could have on those who look up to and admire them.

SO WHO ON EARTH ADVISED HER SHE MAY HAVE HAD A CASE?

I really try to be empathetic to other people’s situations.

I try not to judge, but it’s hard at times.

That’s how I felt when I read that Britain’s youngest Euromillions winner, Jane Park, wanted to sue lottery officials for ‘ruining her life’ by letting her take home the jackpot of £1m at the age of 17.

Seriously? Jane appeared on ITV’s Loose Women this week, where she admitted she’d backed down over making a supposed claim against the lottery, saying that her life now isn’t ‘all bad’ because of the win.

I know you never know how you’ll feel about certain situations until they happen to you, but I do wonder who on earth advised her that she may have had a case.

Ridiculous.

BABY SIENNA SLEPT SOUNDLY FROM 8PM TO 7AM - 11 HOURS!

I realise all parents out there are going to go mad at this statement, but I honestly don’t know why people go on about the lack of sleep when you have a baby.

Only joking and please forgive me...

However, I did have my sister’s baby daughter Sienna over on Friday night.

She’s just 12 weeks old and I had expected a nightmare evening, having to get up every few hours and feeling pretty rough by Saturday.

But this was not the case – she slept soundly from 8pm Friday night to 7am Saturday – 11 hours!

Not only did I wake up feeling rather refreshed having had a great night’s sleep, but it made me think perhaps I could do this and be a mum.

Ha, ha, I think that I may live to regret that statement one day.
