Last week Portsmouth lost an amazing DJ, a good friend and an all-round great guy. He touched the lives of all who knew him – the force was strong in that one.
I attended Amplified Classics last week where DJs Chris Vaux and Gav Daruvalla played four hours back-to-back in tribute to Matt Berry, and they did him proud.
He may be gone but his memories will live on and he will never be forgotten.
Party hard Portsmouth, in memory of Matt Berry.
Tonight, Forward takes over Flamingos Bar in Albert Road from 9pm until 1am. This week they welcome special guest Gary Archer to spin some tunes, supported by resident DJs Dan Morten and Reece Jewer. Join them for forward-thinking house music with free entry all night.
Just across the road at The Wedgewood Rooms, Hipshaker are hosting a free entry after show event from 11.30pm following The Modfathers tribute act, filling the Wedge with sounds of soul, jazz, funk, rock and Motown.
Tomorrow night, Amplified Sessions return to The Astoria from 10pm until 2am, this week inviting Defected In The House leading lady Sam Divine to take to the decks.
She started as an employee in a record shop and has developed over the years into a guaranteed floor filler. With gigs all over the world and a residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza, this talented DJ knows how to get the party started.
Supporting her will be Amplified resident DJ Sam Bylett, who also happens to be celebrating his birthday from midnight. Happy birthday Sam. Tickets are £7 from Resident Advisor.
Also tomorrow Funktifino present House Masters Volume 2 with Heller and Forley at The Wedgewood Rooms from 10pm until 2.30pm.
Terry Farley and Pete Heller helped create some of the biggest hits of the ’90s as part of Junior Boys and now they are here playing in Portsmouth. Tickets are £8 from The Wedgewood Rooms.
Meanwhile next door in The Edge, Throwback and bringing the house party vibes from 8pm until 2am, playing old-school hip-hop, funk and soul whilst hosting an open mic for beat boxers and MCs.
