Help - I’m addicted to Aldi! | Cheryl Gibbs

I appreciate I am usually always late to the party – literally and metaphorically speaking.I recall writing a couple of years ago about how impressed I was when food shopping at Lidl or Aldi, something everyone else had cottoned on to years before.

But, as I say, I’m always late on the uptake when it comes to trends or popular things like this.

As we’re still effectively self-isolating and not going out, I have become slightly obsessed with online shopping for our bungalow.

Over the past week I have downloaded the Aldi app and am now obsessed – and I mean obsessed with it – buying more than we need and more importantly more than we can afford.

But I can’t help it, it’s addictive!

The problem is, I’m clearly not the only one doing the same because the moment something gets uploaded, it is all sold out.

We are talking gone completely gone in a matter of minutes.

It’s now becoming a personal mission of mine to get on there before the mad rush and buy things we don’t need.

In fact, the only thing that gets me through the overnight feed with Harley is that I hopefully can grab a bargain before people wake up at a normal hour.

It’s becoming a problem, to the point where now, if Matt spots me on my phone his instant response is ‘what are you buying from Aldi now?’

It’s addictive, I swear, and I can’t work out if its because I genuinely want the items or because it’s the rush of actually getting something before it sells out.

However, despite my obsession I’ve managed to buy some really nice things to kit our garden out for when we host our next event, much to Matt’s disgust.

He’s not into hosting but, as I’ve pointed out, we’ve spent three years working on our garden and while it’s still not finished, it would be nice to share it with people.

He responded to that by saying that all I’ve done is buy a load of things that would have been good last summer, or next summer, when we can actually see people.

But now it’s all going to be stored away in the garage collecting dust for another year.

No make-up, hair scraped back, I need to get a grip

Has anyone else totally let themselves go during lockdown?

I’ve always prided myself on my appearance and, despite being with Matt for now two decades, I always try to look nice no matter what we do or where we go.

I’ve never really let myself go, but lockdown is another story altogether.

Or perhaps it’s having a newborn?

Though I can’t blame Harley as she is almost four months now.

I’ve not worn a scrap of make-up since lockdown.

I brush my hair back into a high pony tail, fringe and all, to reveal my spam head and I wear the easiest clothes I can find – pyjamas or baggy sweats.

I need to get a grip.

Mum, all we want is a bit of encouragement to get slim!

My mum set up a slimming WhatsApp group for those of us in the family who would like to lose unwanted pounds.

I’m still at least a stone heavier than I would like to be. I’d love to blame the baby but I’m the same weight now as I was when I came out of hospital. I’m blaming lockdown because I now buy biscuits for Matt which basically means for every one biscuit he gets, I have two – hence this new WhatsApp group.

The problem is our slimming leader – my mum. She sends strict messages telling us what we can and can’t do which have the opposite effect of being motivational. Quite frankly, if she carries on I shall be leading a rebellion.
