Hubby's 40th birthday wasn't quite the celebration we had planned | Cheryl Gibbs

We celebrated Matt’s 40th birthday yesterday and before the awful coronavirus took over the world we had some lovely things planned

We were going to kick off with a big party that was supposed to take place on Saturday, followed by a family holiday in June.

We also had a spa night break booked and a meal on his actual birthday.

He will undoubtedly remember his 40th forever, but not for the reasons we had imagined.

Instead of doing all of the above, Matt spent his birthday with me and Harley self-isolating at home. I t was different, but perfect in its own way.

Matt and I met when he was 19 so we’ve celebrated more than two decades of birthdays just the two of us.

To be celebrating his milestone birthday with our gorgeous daughter, who turned 10 weeks this week, was also really special.

I promise not to continually mention her age, but I still can’t get over how old she’s getting and how quick the time is going.

The lockdown did mean that we just chilled out together, as opposed to his birthday being hectic with visitors and plans.

I tried my best to make it special and organised an afternoon tea that was delivered by the Ship and Bell in Horndean, followed by an evening meal from Koop and Kraft, in Cowplain, which is also doing deliveries .

The day centred around food, but what else could we really do?

I also organised a video call with Matt’s family and friends who all sang Happy Birthday to him .

While they sang I presented him with a cake and candles.

As I said, it wasn’t the same.

My family celebrate each other’s birthdays together, and it’s always a big affair – let alone a big birthday like this.

But, we made the best of it.

I’ll always be grateful that this year, on such a big one, during such a horrendous time, our beautiful daughter got to make her daddy’s birthday.

It will be one that Matt will remember forever.

We are all getting itchy feet but we must stay at home

How are you guys coping at the moment? I do hope you’re all safe and well and adhering to the lockdown rules to ensure you and your loved ones are healthy.

Week four of lockdown and I think it’s fair to say that most people are starting to get itchy feet from being at home all the time.

I think, for a lot of people, it was a bit of a novelty at first.

Those who usually have busy lives got to chill out and do things around the house they’ve been putting off.

Now the appeal of being in all the time is wearing off.

But we must remain strong, guys, please stay safe.

The only way you can do that is by being indoors, it really is that simple.

Our nonagenarians give us something to aspire to

As I’ve been getting up early these days, thanks to the joys of having a newborn, I’ve been watching Good Morning Britain with Piers Morgan.

I was thrilled to watch the live link to Carrie Pollock, the 99-year-old woman from Hayling Island who is thought to be the oldest Briton to recover from coronavirus.

What a hero.

I also watched in awe as war veteran Captain Tom Moore, who is also 99 years old, spoke to Piers about trying to raise £1,000 by completing 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden.

At the time of writing, Cpt Moore, a Second World War veteran, has raised more than £13m.

How inspirational are Carrie and Tom? So proud.
