A support bubble trip down memory lane | BBC Radio Solent's Lou Hannan

Like millions of other people over the UK, I was delighted to hear the news on easing lockdown restrictions.

Never did I think the term ‘support bubble’ would a) enter my vocabulary and b) excite me so much!

But excitement is what I felt when I discovered I could finally go and visit my mum in Oxfordshire and, more importantly, STAY OVERNIGHT!

Similar to many of the other announcements filtering down about the easing of the lockdown restrictions, it took me a while to completely understand what it meant for me.

But, living alone, and with my mum in the same situation, I was over the moon to realise we could form a support bubble.

On hearing this news, most people would have rejoiced at being able to hug a loved one after months of isolation and while that was of course the same for me, another of the big bonuses was finally being able to sleep in my childhood bed once again.

It’s been said many times that so much of what you most appreciate in life, you take for granted.

It was only when I walked back into my old bedroom that I realised how true this is.

There were the curtains that don’t quite meet in the middle meaning you wake up at the first hint of daylight, along the with moth-eaten Basil Brush soft toy on the bedside table which lolls to the side giving the impression he’s a bit tipsy,

I’m lucky because my mum still lives in the house I was born in and although the Barbie wallpaper and Bros posters have thankfully been replaced by some subtle Natural Wicker Dulux and a replica Constable oil painting, it will always be home to me.

I wish I knew what it was about getting into the same bed you’ve known for years, knowing you’re guaranteed to have the best night’s sleep ever.

The magical feeling of staying back in your childhood home that leads to complete relaxation – the familiar smells, the feeling of security and nostalgia.

So, if you’ve been lucky enough to take advantage of forming a support bubble I hope you’ve enjoyed spending time with family, hugging your loved ones and, perhaps, a better night’s sleep.
