I go to a running club on a Wednesday, and while we were running along the seafront, cursing the weights we were holding and wondering just how long we could hang on for, a mother and her two children cycled by.
They were on the pavement, oblivious to the cycle lane next to the promenade.
When we asked her why she was on the pavement and not in the cycle lane, the lady replied: ‘I’ve got children with me’.
Now those children were also on bikes. They were all wearing helmets.
There was no-one else in the two-way cycle lane as far as the eye could see.
I have no idea what her point could have been. All I know is that the cycle lane is there for cyclists, so use it.
If only there was a lane for runners...
