Have your say

Royal Navy surgeon Dr William Gordon Stables, you have a lot to answer for. Apparently in 1880 he commissioned a vehicle based on a horse-drawn gypsy wagon and then went off travelling around Britain in it.

So, all those caravans now clogging up the motorways and A-roads are, ultimately, down to the Doc.

I’ve just had to negotiate scores of them during a trip up north and am left puzzled by how the drivers either seem to crawl along at a snail’s pace or try to go too fast, thus causing the caravans they’re towing to snake alarmingly.

Then there are the poorly-maintained ones that suffer tyre blowouts and end up stuck at the side of the road. But at least their owners have somewhere to make a brew while they wait for the AA.
