From fish soup to mouldy cheese on the airwaves – Lou and Alun

Hello! Here’s a brand new column for you to enjoy in the Portsmouth News and it’s up to me, Lou Hannan, to introduce it… what a responsibility!

Alun Newman and I present the brand new weekday show on BBC Radio Solent from together from 10am.

Each week we’ll alternate writing this column for you and will (hopefully) provide you with a few smiles along the way.

Although we’ve amassed around four decades of radio presentation and production between us, we’re pretty new to this writing lark.

‘Write 300 words’, they said, ‘how many minutes on the radio is that?’ was my reply.

If you haven’t tuned in to BBC Radio Solent lately, then you should.

Alun and I started the new sound to mornings just over a month ago and I can honestly say, I haven’t had as much fun in years.

From discovering Alun’s penchant for eating smelly fish soup at 8am, to me revealing my loathing of the humble foot, we’ve discovered things about each other I never thought we would and sharing them with the listeners each day is just brilliant.

It’s when you reveal the things that make you tick that really gets the south talking, though. Just last week, a caller told us how he happily eats cheese that’s been sitting in the fridge for two years.

Each day we have an expert joining us in the studio – from personal style through to stocks and shares, there isn’t a subject we won’t tackle or an expert we can’t find.

All that, plus fantastic feel good music, celebrity guests and us getting out and about across the south, it’s the perfect way to brighten your day.

Alun and I can’t wait to bring a bit of that fun to The News every week!

Tune into Lou and Alun weekdays at 10am on BBC Radio Solent
