Getting my head down in a cottage built from an old ship

Have your say

On my jaunt to the New Forest Show I discovered a delightful place to rest my head for the night. Cottage Lodge is in the heart of Brockenhurst and you can’t miss it with its zingy yellow door.

Built in 1650 and originally a forester’s cottage, what’s interesting is that it was built from a decommissioned merchant ship. Wood features throughout with much of the furniture made by carpenter Robert Dyer from fallen forest trees including a four-poster bed out of an old ash. The highlights of my stay were the arrival of a group of meandering forest ponies outside my window and the scrumptious breakfast served by charming owner Christina.

I’m looking forward to returning in the autumn to see pigs roaming the heath.
