While in New York I really wanted to pay my respects at the site of the World Trade Center.
It’s the second most moving place I’ve been to in my life.
The first was Oradour-Sur-Glane in France, where almost every person who lived there was massacred by Nazi SS troops in 1944, and which has been kept exactly as it was on that day.
The World Trade Center site, scene of a similarly devastating atrocity, has been transformed with love, care and respect as a memorial to those who died there on September 11, 2001.
There are interactive screens where you can see the pictures and descriptions of the people who died.
And the footprints of the twin towers themselves have been turned into calm waterfalls. I’m glad I went.
