As I shimmy across the dance floor at the wedding reception of some good friends I admire those around me.
Letting their hair down they are full of joy, energy and have smiles stretched across their faces.
Suddenly my legs began to move, my knees started to bend... I was dancing, having funSam Poole
Suddenly my legs began to move, my knees started to bend and my hands were stretched towards the ceiling.
I was dancing – having fun.
I questioned whether alcohol was responsible for an element of what was happening.
Maybe so, but the light-hearted environment was just great. Additionally this wedding was small(ish) and intimate.
There was no worry about irresponsible drunks wanting to cause mischief or attempting to dance on tables.
At times people would embarrass themselves with terrible dance routines, me included.
You could argue that the great atmosphere was inevitable because, after all, it was a wedding.
Nevertheless it was a strong reminder of the importance in having fun and devoting time to chill-out.
It is too easy to get caught up with everything we do.
For each of us the lives we lead are completely different.
Many of us have much time on our hands where we don’t do much at all.
Some work flat out, and others enjoy socialising and doing things with people. We are all different.
I personally struggle to deliberately take time out to spend doing nothing. And because of this I feel exhausted and warn out.
But it is necessary to have a laugh and enjoy life together. We need to find a balance.
Celebrating the marriage of two friends along my disastrous dancing reminded me I need to ensure to take time out.
We all need to be firm and acknowledge the importance of letting our hair down from time to time.
If you intend spending time by yourself I would argue you need to ensure it is positive and productive.
You should never dwell on your thoughts and be brought crashing down as a result of them.
On the other hand, if you spend your spare time with others, be certain it’s with people you love.
Being around those you love and trust allows you to be yourself: free from judgement.
If I was uncomfortable at the wedding I wouldn’t have had as much fun as I did.
But as I was with people who were all comfortable around each other, we had a blast!
