I almost ended up a skeleton after sledging débacle on hill

COMMENT: All agencies must to held to account for Anne Savidge’s tragic death

Have your say

So the Winter Olympics have taken a break until the Paralympics start on March 7 and, although I’m not massively into it, I do find some of the events interesting to watch.

Whereas most people have probably tried an event or two from the summer Olympics at some time in their life, most have probably never taken part in an event seen at their winter counterpart.

Take the gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold, who competes in the skeleton, which is basically lying face down on a tray and hurtling down a mountain.

The nearest I’ve ever got to this was last time it snowed.

I retrieved an old sledge from my mum’s loft and made my way to Portsdown Hill, then ended up in an undignified heap in a hedge at the bottom.
