I felt honoured to discover I was being called ‘Our Cheryl’

Surely, holding a door open for a member of either sex is just good manners?

LESLEY KEATING: Would you dare hold a door open for a woman?

Have your say

I went out with a friend John this week and he told me his mum is a regular reader of my column.

He said that since I met her about two Christmases ago, she’s been reading the paper every Friday.

Apparently, she calls me ‘Our Cheryl when talking about what I’ve written about.

John thought this was hilarious but I found it humbling and was so grateful. I was a little tearful – and it had nothing to do with the Malibu!

I was so honoured to know that she felt she knew me as I know that calling someone ‘our’ is usually reserved for a friend or family member.

John said: ‘She doesn’t even know you’. I said: ‘If she reads my column every week, she does.’

Thank you Lesley Burt – don’t stop reading!
