ZELLA COMPTON: Looking afresh at our beautiful spot in the world

Have your say

My quest to drive the first bus on Gosport’s new BRT route has begun. On Monday morning I met my instructor, Hayley, and a fellow trainee called Rob.

As we walked around the historic Hoeford depot, we saw the vehicle in which we’ll be training.

What a massive beast. A full-size Volvo coach, almost 40ft long and more than 8ft wide, weighing 12 tonnes and with 500 horsepower.

I apologise to the drivers of Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent as I kept them crawling along at 15mph.

I also apologise to the railing on the roundabout leading from Stokes Bay for leaving a bit of the coach’s body trim on it. A fantastic experience though – and things can only get better!
