I’m glad that Gosport makes a big effort for Christmas

COMMENT: Bandstand event is a victim of its own success

Have your say

Are Christmas light switch-ons really that important these days?

Southampton doesn’t even bother and generally people either complain that councils don’t spend enough, or are blowing their taxes on a massive Christmas tree and lights.

But after being on stage in Gosport at Saturday’s switch-on, I’m glad the town does make an effort.

Hundreds of families all together, watching the celebrations unfold, screaming kids welcoming The X Factor contestants The Brooks and carol singing all added to the festive occasion.

For all of the above, I would like to say a big thank you for coming and keep spreading that positive vibe. Such occasions should be embraced.
