I’m hoping for healthy meals, but fear the twizzler’s return

Home closure will give residents some respite

Have your say

Free school dinners for 5-7 year-olds from September 2014 will be welcomed by my son Jack, one of the first to benefit from the Lib Dem initiative.

Many schools will struggle to cope with the additional demand and will depend on external providers.

Caterers are notorious for keeping costs low to keep their margins high. If the schools are running on tight budgets, one does wonder about the quality of food that will be served up. Whilst good food costs, reconstituted ham-water is cheap.

How nice it would be for schools to serve up wholesome daily meals, a few variations and a cascading platter of seasonal fresh fruit.

But I fear the twizzler may make a return.
