It seems the PC brigade are out in force again.

In the Canadian city of Vancouver, the humble doorknob is apparently now banned.

A law has been passed outlawing them on all new buildings because it’s felt that the elderly, infirm and disabled can struggle to grip them.

The knob, officially invented less than 150 years ago, will be replaced by the lever – which is decribed as simple, sleek and plain easier to use as you just push down on it.

Some groups here in the UK want our doorknobs done away with too.

But whatever next?

Why not ban the humble doorbell as well and then get folks calling round to shout for you through the letterbox instead?
