There’ve been suggestions this week that Portsmouth may be getting its first free school.
A free school is a state-funded school set up in response to what local people say they want and need for children in their community, with complete autonomy from their local authority.
One of the many concerns is that free school teachers don’t actually have to be qualified teachers. An experienced parent could step up to teach.
I know some great accountants, but would they be able to teach 20 12-year-olds algebra?
The Lib-Dems can talk a right load of guff at times, but their insistence that all teachers are qualified seems like common sense.
