I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I don’t have cause to drive down Winston Churchill Avenue in Portsmouth very often.
It was only when I was huffing and puffing my way up and down there last week that I could really take in the new Somers Town Community Hub.
The last time I was in it I was taken on a guided tour by building contractor BAM and it was all damp concrete and semi-installed wooden beams.
It was brave of the designers to come up with the elliptical oblong shape, with the curved glass viewing section overlooking the road.
But I thought then how smart it would look when it was finished, and I wasn’t wrong.
It cost £10.8m to build and I think that it’s worth every penny.
