I know it’s a very British thing to talk about the weather a lot, but my word I’ve had enough of the rain.
It’s been responsible for an overly-large wet patch appearing on my bedroom wall and for my boiler breaking down, leaving me without heating and hot water.
But at least I’ve had no other damage, which is more than can be said for the good people of Hambledon.
They’ve spent weeks trying to stop flooded storm cellars overflowing into their homes and sandbagging front doors to prevent run-off creeping into their properties.
That’s why I was astonished to hear the village won’t get help from the government to install badly-needed new flood defences.
These people endure it every year and it’s about time they didn’t have to any more.
