Have your say

How fantastic that the first female bishop has been approved. She is Rev Libby Lane and is the newest bishop in the diocese of Chester.

Interestingly, her official title is Suffragan See of Stockport which means she’s a junior bishop with responsibility for Stockport, who will also assist the Bishop of Chester.

The suffragan part of her title means area, but I was taken by how close a word it is to suffrage. I apologise in advance, but I looked this up and so I have to share it.

Suffrage means having the ability to vote. The suffragettes fought for women to be allowed to vote.

Maybe the one thing Rev Libby and the suffragettes have in common is they have both risen up to break a tradition.
