It’s just as well I’m too old to be retrained as an astronaut

It’s important the parade continues – but safely

Have your say

How exciting for Major Tim Peake, who is heading off to the International Space Station in the next couple of years.

He’ll be the first Brit to do so – with the intention of, among other things, inspiring a generation of children to take up science.

But the stark reality of what it must be like up there – cramped conditions living with other people and no way of escape – takes me back to a caravanning holiday I once had.

However much I might want to go off this planet sometimes, the thought of being cooped up with no way out and no fresh fruit, no sneaky chocolate trips to the One-Stop etc is a scary one.

So I’ve decided it’s just as well I’m too old to be inspired into retraining as an astronaut.
