I bring encouraging news for the anti-European lobby, as the battle for hearts and minds begins well ahead of the referendum.

Lord Mandelson and Westminster commoners Kenneth Clarke and Danny Alexander have decided to form what they hope will become an irresistible brains trust to convince us all of the benefits of EU membership.

It has certainly benefited his lordship, who enjoyed a lucrative period as an appointed commissioner in this undemocratic shambles of an administration.

At the launch of the Centre for British Influence, Mandelson said: ‘Eurosceptics have been allowed to get away with murder, through lies and false propaganda.’

That – coming from the master of the darks arts – is quite an accolade.
