Two members of staff at work stayed up to watch the sad sight of the BBC2 analogue signal being switched off. I do believe it was also recorded for posterity and may well appear on YouTube!
They will also be watching when the other analogue services go next Wednesday.
Television enthusiasts all over the UK will mourn the passing of ‘ghosting’ and ‘wowing’ of pictures.
It was explained to me that TV first came to the south from Rowridge in 1954, then ITV arrived from Chillerton Down in 1958 with colour introduced in 1967 and black and white ending in 1985.
So they said it will be a sad, sad day when it goes in less than a week’s time.
I was sorry I asked!
