I’m continually astounded by the humility and character of the D-Day veterans, considering the unthinkable horror these men and women had to endure and have to relive in their memories.
It’s been a privilege to live in Portsmouth and witness the 70th anniversary commemorations.
A few weeks back I hosted a D Day 70 evening, where veterans spoke of their personal involvement.
A month after the event, on a Sunday morning, I received a phone call from one of them. He was calling to say thank you and to tell me how much he’d enjoyed the event.
Thank me? I just stood there and introduced a few people. Let’s hope their stories and experiences continue to resonate – they are exceptional people.
