Have your say

I’m sure Meryl Streep is a mighty fine actress, but the sooner we stop glorifying Margaret Thatcher and what she did for this country the better.

Whatever you class as the Iron Lady’s achievements, you’ve got to acknowledge that she also did an awful lot of harm. There are communities in south Yorkshire, for example, that have never recovered from the closure of their coal pits.

And while Maggie’s nerves of steel might be the stuff of David Cameron’s dreams, she’s really not a heroine to everyone.

While I’m sure Meryl’s new film depicting the Thatcher years is an entertaining way to spend an hour or two, I hope cinemagoers remember the facts behind the fiction as they shovel popcorn into their mouths.
