This week I’ve hardly seen my boyfriend. He’s spent the entire week with another woman – my mother!
I know it sounds a little odd, but I assure you there wasn’t anything strange going on.
He’s been doing a week of volunteering for a children’s charity in Sussex and was staying with my mum as she’s nearby.
I have nothing against my mother-in-law, but I reckon she would find it a bit weird if I turned up in Gosport and said I wanted to stay for a week
We stay with my mum a lot, visiting her on average a couple of times a month, so I didn’t think anything of it.
But when I mentioned to Jez that I was home alone this week as Liam was round at my mum’s, he thought it was most bizarre!
He reckons you’re not even supposed to like your mother in-law, let alone voluntarily spend time with her!
But Liam and mum get on really well and I bet he’s had a lovely week.
Mum’s a feeder, so she’ll have been bringing him cups of tea, cooking up lovely, meaty dinners (something that, as a veggie, I’m awful at) and I’m sure they’ll have sat and watched at least half the Foyle’s War back catalogue together in the evenings.
He probably won’t want to come home!
Jez: I was amazed to discover that Lou’s boyfriend Liam was enjoying a week’s break at her mother’s house in Sussex, while she is back in Hampshire working with me on The Breeze breakfast show.
Clearly he has really got his feet under the table!
I was impressed with the lack of jealousy on Lou’s part.
I have nothing against my mother-in-law, but I reckon she would find it a bit weird if I turned up in Gosport and said I wanted to stay for a week while my wife was back at home in Fareham.
I guarantee my wife would also wonder what the hell was going on.
The other massive issue I would face if I went to my mother-in-law’s for a holiday would be my own mother.
She would get very jealous and expect me to be staying with her, and would happily tell me so in no uncertain terms.
In the past I’ve enjoyed a fabulous week’s holiday to Gran Canaria with my mother-in-law.
But before you start wondering, I can assure you my wife and kids were also present.
