I was incredibly saddened to hear the news this week about the death of teacher Ann Maguire.

Ann was allegedly stabbed to death while teaching a class this week at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds.

And yesterday a 15-year-old boy appeared in court charged with her murder.

Apart from the obvious sadness about the death of such a kind and spirited teacher, Ann was 62 and close to retirement.

It was even her day off, but she had gone in to help her students prepare for their exams.

How unbelievably sad.

I was at ITN this week on the news desk when the updates were coming through and it genuinely touched me.

What an absolute tragedy and what a loss.
