Lou: Selfie? I’d much rather have a celebrity’s autograph

Apparently autographs are falling out of favour – these days the thing to do when you spot a celeb is to grab your phone and ask for a selfie.

Now I don’t mind selfies. They can be amusing when you’re with a group of friends, as Ellen DeGeneres demonstrated when she took her famous Oscars selfie.

But to me taking a selfie with a celeb just isn’t the same as a signature.

When I was younger, autographs were worth something. Not only money, they were also playground status symbols.

At school I once agreed to play with a girl I didn’t like every day for a whole term in exchange for a signed photo of Storm from the TV show Gladiators!
