What a great documentary that was about Meat Loaf on the BBC last week.
After watching the film-makers explore the background to his music, it suddenly all made sense why I love it so much (well, not his, his friend Jim’s – but that’s another story).
Meat Loaf is musical theatre through and through. Of course I’ve always known this, but have never put my finger on it as such.
I love songs with a narrative and that’s what Bat Out Of Hell is – a wonderful story about teenage highs and lows.
Catch the documentary if you can – it has some rude language, but if you can cover your ears and those of your children, it’s actually a really great story of hard work, determination and eventual success.
