MANAGER David Hughes treats every day at The Old Customs House like it’s his first.
‘I absolutely love my job,’ he said.
‘It’s a passion of mine. The hours are long and it’s hard going but it’s all worth it.’
David, who lives in Gunwharf Quays, said: ‘Every time I walk by the pub each morning I get a real buzz.
‘Not many people are lucky enough to feel that way about the place they work in.’
David, who grew up in Swansea, has a team of 50 staff behind him.
They are made up of barmaids and barmen, cleaners, waiters and waitresses and chefs. In his spare time David loves travelling as well as quality food and drink. Before he took over at The Old Customs House he worked in Harvester restaurants across Basingstoke.
‘I’m glad that I’ve managed to settle in Portsmouth,’ he added.
‘It reminds me a lot of Swansea – a fantastic city which has so much to offer.
‘Working with customers is something I’ve always wanted to do.’
