Memories of weekly ritual of a trip to the local fishmonger

COMMENT: All agencies must to held to account for Anne Savidge’s tragic death

Have your say

I was very saddened to hear recently of the passing of Fareham fishmonger Peter Cripps.

His business in West Street has been there since I was very small.

I reckon it’s probably one of the oldest shops left in the town centre, along with Soothills Bakery.

As a little girl, it was a weekly ritual for my mum and I to go to Peter’s shop.

But I always waited outside as I was quite scared of the goggle-eyed fish on show.

When I moved back to the town earlier this year after living in Southsea for six years, I was heartened to see Peter still working away in the shop .

Rest in peace Peter, you were a true gentleman and legend and the people of Fareham will miss you greatly.
