Mum, how come that Tour de France rider’s in fancy dress?

COMMENT: University has to prove it offers value for money

Have your say

I’m so happy that the Tour de France is back on the telly.

Who can resist tuning in for another instalment of this epic test of endurance, teamwork, spirit and sheer bloody-mindedness?

Then there’s the ludicrous polka dot outfit that the King of the Mountains is required to wear.

Now the Tour’s yellow jersey is bad enough, as nobody looks good in yellow.

No-one chooses to wear that colour in real life.

But the spotty red and white ensemble? Oh dear.

My nine-year-old daughter asked me ‘why is that man wearing fancy dress? Should he even be in this race?’

Congratulations to all those riders giving their all in the Tour.

But come on organisers, less polka dots please!
