My mum's right, we really should have got up earlier

So who was among the huge crowds that descended on Southsea seafront at the weekend to watch Rhythm Of The Nineties at the bandstand?

You must have had a great time, basking in the sunshine and enjoying the tunes.

Sadly I wasn’t there. As you can probably tell, this was something I wasn’t too happy about.

I do like to immerse myself in the city’s events and have been to bandstand gigs several times.

I’ve always had a great time and had high hopes for the latest one.

Our friends, the usual ‘bank holiday’ crew we hang around with, had all agreed to meet for breakfast before heading on down to the bandstand for the day.

But this was the first issue.

You see, they wanted to meet at 10am for breakfast.

Well, anyone who knows Matt and I know that we just don’t do 10am on a Sunday. It’s far too early.

So we politely declined this offer, agreeing instead to meet them down there.

I didn’t think this would be a problem. But how wrong could I be?

Having left the house at midday, we spent a miserable 70 minutes in the car trying to make our way from Bedhampton, where we were staying at my mum’s, to Southsea.

By the time we got there, the seafront was absolutely heaving.

Matt and I had spent the entire journey moaning at each other, feeling increasingly hot and bothered.

Then we spent the next 40 minutes trying to find a parking space. We looked all over, but to no avail.

Deciding reluctantly to give up on the idea of the bandstand, we drove part way out of the city, found a wall to sit on, ate our now-sweaty sandwiches that I’d made earlier and then drove home.

I then spent the rest of the day watching people’s Facebook Live videos of them enjoying the very event we should have been at.

In the words of my mother, who used to say this every time when we were younger and crowds of people were trying to get into town as we were heading out: ‘They should have got up earlier.’

Wise woman, my mother.

GOOD TO SEE THERE’S HUMOUR AMONG THE HOLLYWOOD ELITE

Have you seen the video of Britney Spears pranking US TV host Jimmy Kimmel? It’s hilarious and a must-watch.

The (Hit Me) Baby One More Time singer and Las Vegas star pranked the host by creeping into his home in the middle of night and waking him up by getting her dance troupe to gyrate around his bed.

It’s hilarious and fair play to his wife, who must have been in on the act and can be seen in her dressing gown sniggering as Jimmy sits alone in bed whilst scantily-clad male dancers do their thing.

Then Britney joins them in bed and starts dancing herself – all the time promoting her new track.

But it’s good to see some genuine humour among the Hollywood elite.

KRIS’S CAR CRASH LOOKED JUST LIKE A SCENE FROM A MOVIE

Kris Jenner has had one awful week. The mother of the famous Kardashian and Jenner clan has been involved in a car crash near her home in Calabasas, Los Angeles.

According to sources, her Rolls-Royce, which she had only bought a week before, was hit when a Prius ran a red light and cut her off, causing the crash.

Daughters Khloe, Kim and Kylie and son-in-law Kanye West and boyfriend Corey Gamble rushed to be at her side as paramedics tried to help her without moving her from the vehicle.

The images splashed all over the internet looked like a scene from a movie – fire engines and police crews and her Roller, built just down the road at Chichester, almost certainly a write-off.

Get well, Kris.
