I read with interest the story about women giving birth having to leave Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust maternity centres as soon as they are able.
Obviously the trust will have its reasons – high number of births, costs, efficient use of midwives, whatever – for this temporary change during August.
But it does make me wonder about how a new young mum will feel and respond to being ousted once fit and well.
Giving birth is an emotional and painful journey and as much as I said I wanted to go home straight after baby number one, I was truly grateful to be kept in and given time to learn how to look after my new addition.
To me, out inside a day – or within a few hours in some cases – is plain wrong.
