OPINION: Why are the Christmas queues so long in shops?

Like it or not, it is now the run up to Christmas, so, please, pretty please, would the powers-that-be, if there are any, get some staff in to man the many tills that are in the shops?

It is so annoying to be stood in a long queue where there is maybe two or even one person working the tills.

You look around and see many with no-one working them.

I see many people dumping their shopping and walking out.

Even the dumbest person will know that this is not good for trade, so where are the ‘savvy’ top brass?

When asking why are the tills not manned, I am told that they cannot afford more staff.

I am sure that if customers did not have to keep queuing everywhere they shop, more profit could be made.

Certain shops, who I will not name, are well known for this.

One particular well-known high street shop has taken some tills away and put in these nagging self-service machines.

That’s all well and good, but a large percentage of shoppers prefer the personal touch.

I can already see that shopping in and around Portsmouth is going to be a nightmare.
