Last week when I visited Devon, my father and I admired a field of sheep preparing to lamb.
‘Why are their bums blue?’ I asked.
‘Rams have a blue cartridge strapped to their bellies. That way the farmer knows which ewes have been served.’
Forget phone-hacking. There’s no such thing as a private life if you’re a sheep.
‘Why aren’t they all blue?’
‘Underage ewes are kept penned away from the ram.’
This month, NHS research revealed that a quarter of young women had experienced underage sex.
More education is recommended to encourage abstinence.
But until we stop bombarding teenagers with sex in every ad and pop video, I fear only penning or blue cartridges on boys will work.
